The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of popular singer Zubeen Garg has made several serious observations in its final chargesheet, pointing to alleged negligence, delay in medical help and questionable conduct by those present at the time of the incident. The 305-page chargesheet has now been formally submitted, marking a crucial stage in the long-running investigation.
According to the SIT, the main findings of the case have been recorded in detail in the report. Five individuals have been named as the main accused. Among them, serious allegations have been levelled against Shyamkantu Mahanta, whose actions, investigators claim, played a key role in the sequence of events that led to Zubeen Garg’s death.
One of the most disturbing findings in the chargesheet relates to the delay in providing medical assistance. The SIT has stated that after Zubeen Garg was pulled out of the sea, he was left on the seashore without any medical aid for nearly 75 minutes. Despite information being available that he had drowned and was in a critical condition, no immediate steps were taken to arrange an ambulance.
According to the report, an ambulance was called only after nearly one and a half hours had passed. The chargesheet further notes that even after authorities were informed about the incident, there was no urgency shown in providing medical help. The SIT has said this delay severely reduced the chances of saving his life.
Investigators have also pointed out that basic emergency protocols were not followed at the spot. The report states that necessary medical treatment was not provided when it was most needed. Despite Zubeen Garg being in a critical condition, there was no immediate effort to ensure proper medical examination or stabilisation.
The chargesheet further mentions that Zubeen Garg was taken to Singapore without a valid medical fitness certificate. The SIT has questioned how such a decision was taken without first ensuring that he was medically fit to travel. According to investigators, this reflects a serious disregard for his health and safety.
In another grave allegation, the SIT has claimed that despite doctors advising against it, Shyamkantu Mahanta gave Zubeen Garg a bottle of liquor. The report states that Zubeen was made to consume alcohol throughout the night on Mahanta’s instructions. It further alleges that Mahanta handed the liquor bottle to Amritprabha Mahanta with directions to give it to Zubeen.
The SIT has pointed out that the consumption of alcohol in such circumstances may have worsened Zubeen Garg’s condition. Investigators have treated this as a serious lapse, especially as the alleged medical advice was ignored.
The chargesheet has also raised questions about the role of the yacht party organiser. According to the SIT, the organiser failed to inform anyone about Zubeen Garg’s deteriorating health condition. This lack of communication, the report notes, added to the confusion and delay in arranging medical help.
In another significant revelation, the SIT has alleged that after Zubeen Garg’s death, Siddharth attempted to gain financially. The report claims that Zubeen’s money was invested in Hotel Heritage and Mahabir Aqua, a packaged drinking water company owned by Siddharth Sharma. Investigators have said these financial transactions are being examined closely to determine whether any unlawful benefit was derived.
The SIT has also stated that Shyamkantu Mahanta showed gross negligence in ensuring proper security and medical care during the event. According to the chargesheet, this negligence significantly contributed to the tragedy, as basic arrangements that could have prevented the situation or reduced its severity were not in place.
