Nine migrant workers from Assam lost their lives after falling from a construction site in Minjur, Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The workers were engaged in construction activities at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station extension project when the accident occurred.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the deaths on Wednesday and expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of lives. “Nine migrant workers from Assam have reportedly succumbed to death after falling down at a construction site at Minjur, Thiruvallur district, while carrying out construction works for the extension of the North Chennai Thermal Power Station. Four of the victims are from Karbi Anglong district and five from Hojai district. We are coordinating with authorities in Tamil Nadu to bring back their mortal remains at the earliest. My deepest condolences to their families and well wishers,” the Chief Minister said.

According to local sources in Tamil Nadu, the accident occurred while the workers were on duty at a height, carrying out heavy construction work.
