The Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg has taken significant steps in the ongoing inquiry by recording statements from his close family members. On Saturday, October 4, the SIT recorded statements of Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and his sister, Palmee Borthakur, according to investigating officer Moramee Das.
Speaking briefly to the media, Das said, “I recorded the statements of Garima Saikia Garg and Palmee Borthakur today. I cannot comment further at this moment because the investigation is still ongoing.”
Zubeen Garg, a singer widely loved across Assam and the Northeast, passed away on September 19, 2025, while in Singapore. Reports suggest that Garg drowned during a swimming session while attending the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, an event organised by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company. The tragic incident sent shockwaves across the region, prompting the Assam Crime Investigation Department (CID) to take over the case.
