Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the state government will hold a press conference within the next two to three days to officially present the findings of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report concerning Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his alleged links with Pakistan.
Speaking to the media after the state Cabinet meeting, CM Sarma said that journalists from Assam and New Delhi will be invited to attend the briefing. “Within 2-3 days, we will be organising a press conference. Journalists from Delhi will also be invited,” he said. The Chief Minister added that while the Cabinet did discuss the SIT report today, it was not reviewed in detail because of the ongoing sensitive situation in the state, especially the ongoing probe into the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg.
CM Sarma described the findings of the report as “damning and damaging” and stressed that the government wants the public to know the full details. “The report is very damaging. We want to share it with a larger audience so that people are fully aware of its findings,” he said.
The SIT had been investigating Gaurav Gogoi following allegations of potential links with elements in Pakistan. The matter had gained political attention, with opposition parties calling for greater transparency and demanding that the government make the report public.
