Two Assamese nationals from Singapore have arrived at the Assam CID office in Guwahati to assist in the ongoing investigation into the death of singer and actor Zubeen Garg. Officials said that two more individuals from Singapore are expected to join the probe today.
Investigating officials said that the move is part of efforts to gather complete accounts from all individuals who were present during the tragic incident. Zubeen Garg drowned while swimming off the coast of Singapore on September 19, a loss that has deeply saddened fans across Assam and the Assamese community abroad.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke about the matter during a Facebook live session on October 12. “All have to come to Guwahati, no matter what. It is their legal responsibility to assist in the probe,” Sarma said. He added, “And if anyone does not come, we know the legal way of bringing them here.”
The CID has appealed to those who have not yet appeared to cooperate quickly and help investigators complete the statements. Rupkamal Kalita, one of eight individuals who were reportedly aboard the yacht at the time of the fatal swimming incident, appeared before investigators on October 7. Kalita confirmed his willingness to assist authorities and travelled to Guwahati for questioning.
