The Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore in India, Alice Cheng, has urged the people of Assam to remain patient as Singaporean authorities continue their investigation into the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg. Speaking after a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cheng expressed her condolences and reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to conducting a fair and professional inquiry.
“I had a very good meeting with the Chief Minister,” Cheng said. “We discussed areas of mutual cooperation between Singapore and Assam. We also conveyed our condolences to the people of Assam for the passing of Zubeen Garg.”
Cheng further revealed that the Singapore Police had already shared the autopsy report and preliminary findings with the Indian authorities on October 1. However, she clarified that the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information could be disclosed at this stage. “Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information to share because the Police Force in Singapore is currently investigating the case,” she added.
In recent weeks, the mysterious death of Zubeen Garg in Singapore has sparked widespread grief and public concern across Assam and the Northeast. Fans and cultural figures have demanded clarity and justice, with the online campaign #JusticeForZubeenGarg gaining massive traction.
Appealing for calm, Cheng requested that people give the Singapore authorities the necessary time and space to complete their work. “They will do a professional and thorough job,” she assured. “Please allow them time and space to carry out the investigation properly.”
The Singapore government has reiterated its commitment to transparency and cooperation with Indian officials. Meanwhile, Assam’s Chief Minister has expressed his government’s full support in ensuring that all possible information is shared with the family and fans of the late singer.
