The recent controversy over the leak of Zubeen’s post-mortem report has sparked a heated exchange between the Assam Chief Minister and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). AASU President Utpal Sarma on Thursday strongly challenged the CM’s remarks, demanding evidence to support his claims.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that authorities are investigating whether the post-mortem report of Zubeen, which allegedly appeared online, was leaked deliberately. “We have asked SIT whether these claims are true or false. If they are proven true, the responsible individual must be immediately arrested, and strict legal action must follow,” the CM had said.
Responding to the statement, Utpal Sarma said the CM must provide clear proof before making such claims. “If anyone, whether it is me or anyone from our organization, has uploaded the post-mortem report online, the Chief Minister must clearly show where and how it was shared,” he said. He emphasized that this is a very sensitive time and making such accusations without proof is irresponsible. “Even the Chief Minister should refrain from making such accusations during these complex, delicate moments,” he added.
The purported post-mortem report of Zubeen first appeared online on October 14, circulating rapidly on platforms like WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter). The document quickly went viral, causing widespread speculation and concern among the public. However, the Assam Police have clarified that the leaked document is fake.
Special Director General of Police (SDGP), Assam Police, said, “The document lacks a doctor’s signature, which is mandatory for any valid post-mortem report. Therefore, it is not authentic.” He also added that a detailed investigation is underway to trace the origin of the forged report and hold the responsible parties accountable.
