Two militant groups have claimed responsibility for separate attacks on security forces in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam over the past 48 hours, raising concerns over regional security.
The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) reportedly carried out a pre-dawn assault on a 4 Assam Rifles check post at Hahman village, near Manmao in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, on October 16. In a statement issued to the media, the group alleged that Indian security forces quickly sealed off the area to “hide their losses,” although it admitted that the number of casualties could not be confirmed. The outfit accused security personnel of targeting its members and warned that it would continue “tactical strikes” until Indian troops are withdrawn from what it described as Naga areas.
On the same night, around 12:30 a.m., the ULFA-I claimed responsibility for an attack on a 19 Grenadiers unit at Kakopathar in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The group stated that its strike team carried out the assault in line with its operational objectives. 
However, according to the official press release from the PRO (Defence), unidentified attackers fired upon the Kakopathar company location from a moving vehicle at approximately midnight on October 17. The troops on duty responded immediately and with caution to avoid harm to nearby civilian homes. The PRO emphasized that the swift and disciplined response of the Indian Army forced the assailants to flee the area after firing sporadically using automatic weapons.
No major injuries were reported in the Kakopathar incident, though three personnel suffered minor abrasions. Security forces have since sanitized the area, and joint search operations with local police are underway to ensure the safety of civilians and track down the perpetrators.
