Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh has ruled out any disciplinary action against students, research scholars, or staff members who participated in the recent campus protests, calling instead for “forgiveness and reconciliation.”

In an appeal to the university community, Prof Singh described the demonstrations as “a spontaneous outpouring of grief following the tragic and untimely passing of Late Zubeen Garg, coupled with moments of frustration directed at the university.”

He urged all stakeholders to engage in “sincere and respectful dialogue” to resolve the crisis that has gripped the central institution since October 8. The unrest began after students accused Singh of being frequently absent, claiming his prolonged travels had created administrative stagnation.
