In Assam, questions are being raised over the recent campaigns organized by the BJP claiming to seek justice for the late singer Zubeen Garg. The party is more focused on gathering large crowds than genuinely addressing the singer’s case. Many people brought to these rallies had little or no knowledge about Zubeen Garg or the purpose of the campaign.

Reports from various districts including Mangaldai, Dibrugarh and Nalbari suggest that Hindi-speaking citizens, residents of tea garden communities and villagers from remote areas were brought in for the rallies. Many attendees admitted that they were unaware of the campaign’s objectives. Some even said they came hoping to receive benefits from government schemes such as ‘orunodoi,’ while others believed they were attending regular political meetings.

BJP is turning a sensitive issue into a political spectacle. Videos posted by party leaders highlighting the number of attendees have been seen as an attempt to showcase numerical strength rather than genuine public support for justice. Questions are being asked: why bring in people who do not know who Zubeen Garg is? What message does it send when a campaign for justice relies on crowds who do not understand the issue?

Many sees the rallies as a “drama” with no real substance. They claim the approach undermines the cause itself, turning a demand for justice into a stage for political showmanship.

Across Assam, people are now questioning whether the BJP truly wants to deliver justice or is simply using the name of a beloved artist for political gain.
