The call for justice in the mysterious death of Assam’s cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, grew louder on Saturday as his sister Palmee Borthakur made a heartfelt appeal for truth and transparency. Sharing a video from the past, she stood strong and resolute, reminding everyone that the family would settle for nothing less than a fair and open investigation.

In her message, Palmee repeated the words from one of Zubeen’s most popular Assamese songs, “Diya Ghurai Diya Prithivi Amar Amak… Nalage Uluta Prithivi”, which translates to “Give us back the world we cherished; we do not want an imbalanced world.”

“We want nothing but the truth. We only ask for a just and transparent investigation. Return to us the world we cherished; the world that had Zubeen in it,” Palmee said, as she appealed to the people of Assam to stand united.

Both Palmee Borthakur and Garima Saikia Garg, Zubeen’s wife, have been firm in their stance that the singer’s death must not be turned into a political issue. The family has repeatedly appealed to political parties and public figures to refrain from exploiting the tragedy for publicity or personal gain.

“The only thing we seek is truth and justice.. not politics,” Palmee had said earlier this week. The family has requested that the investigation remain open and transparent, without the influence of power or politics. They also asked that the authorities release factual updates instead of controlled or selective information.
