The National Commission for Women (NCW) has reached out to the Mizoram Police and the Assam Rifles to strengthen joint efforts in preventing human trafficking across the India–Myanmar border. The move comes amid growing concerns over the safety of women and children living in border villages of Mizoram, who are often vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation due to the porous nature of the international boundary.

NCW member Delina Khongdup visited Zokhawthar, a key border village in Champhai district, on Monday. Zokhawthar is one of the most active trading points between India and Myanmar, and it has also seen a rise in illegal movements and smuggling activities in recent years. During her visit, Khongdup interacted with local police officers and Assam Rifles personnel, who are responsible for maintaining security along the border.

According to an official statement issued after the visit, Khongdup discussed how better coordination among agencies could help curb human trafficking and ensure the safety of women in the border region. She emphasized the importance of constant vigilance and the need to create awareness among villagers about the tactics used by traffickers.

“The safety of women and children in the border areas is our top priority. We are working closely with the state police and the Assam Rifles to stop illegal cross-border movement and prevent trafficking,” the NCW member said.
