Security forces in Manipur have arrested two militants, including a woman, from Imphal West and Imphal East districts in separate operations this week. The arrests come as part of the intensified crackdown on insurgent groups operating in the state.

According to police, a woman cadre of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested from Langol Game Village in Imphal West district on Wednesday. The arrested woman has been identified as Ningthoujam Anita Devi, aged 44. During preliminary questioning, she reportedly confessed to her involvement in recruiting a young girl from Jiribam district into the PLA, one of the oldest insurgent groups active in Manipur.

Police sources said that the woman had been under surveillance for some time, and her arrest followed specific intelligence inputs. “We received credible information about her presence in the Langol Game Village area. A team was immediately dispatched, and she was taken into custody without any resistance,” an officer said.

The accused has been identified as Wahengbam Kiran Singh, aged 45. Officials said that he was involved in extortion and other illegal activities in the region.

Both arrests were made as part of ongoing intelligence-based operations being carried out across different parts of Manipur to control militant activities and curb rising cases of extortion.
