Police in Hailakandi district arrested two men late Saturday night after they were allegedly found carrying a pistol, one live round, and fake currency notes worth Rs 48,000. The arrests took place in the Ratabari area under Sribhumi district, following what police described as a timely and well-coordinated operation based on a secret tip-off.
According to officials, the police team acted immediately after receiving information that some suspicious persons were moving around in the Jalalabad market area. The police rushed to the spot and detained the suspects before they could escape. A pistol, ammunition, and a bundle of counterfeit currency notes were recovered from their possession.
A senior police officer who was part of the operation said that the seizure and arrests were made around late evening hours. “We nabbed two persons from the Jalalabad market. Police seized one pistol, one live round and fake currencies with a face value of Rs 48,000 from their possession,” he said.
Police sources said that investigation is now underway to trace the origin of the weapon and the fake currency. Officers are also trying to find out whether the arrested men have links with any bigger criminal group involved in illegal arms and counterfeit currency supply in the region.
