The Zomi Council has issued a clarification after a fake press statement, allegedly issued in its name, began circulating regarding the reported killing of four youths in Khanpi village. The organisation said it had not released any such statement and urged the public and media to remain cautious about misinformation.

In a release signed by Mary Jones Vung, Secretary of Information and Publicity, the Council said the fabricated press note claimed to be from its office, but no official communication on the matter had been issued. It stressed that spreading false statements in the Council’s name is a serious act aimed at misleading the public and damaging the organisation’s credibility.

“The circulation of false or fabricated statements in the name of the Council is a serious matter, intended to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the organization. Such acts will invite appropriate action against those responsible,” the statement said.

The Council has urged journalists, citizens, and online users to verify any updates attributed to it through official channels. It reiterated that all authentic announcements are released only via its authorised Zomi Council Media, Information and Publicity WhatsApp channel.
