Security forces in Manipur recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a late-night operation in Churachandpur district on Monday, just hours before a bandh was observed in the area on Tuesday. The recovery has prompted authorities to step up vigilance across the district and other sensitive zones of the state.
According to official reports, the seized items include one 7.62 mm SLR rifle, one AK-56 rifle, and one MA4 MK II rifle fitted with an under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL). In addition, forces recovered four SLR magazines, three AK-56 magazines, two M4A1 magazines, one country-made AK magazine, ninety-nine rounds of SLR ammunition, one hundred fifty-one rounds of AK-56 ammunition, one lathode, and eight lathode grenades.
Officials said the recovery was made as part of ongoing search and area domination operations being carried out in fringe and vulnerable zones. These operations are aimed at preventing the movement of armed groups and ensuring peace amid the tense situation in parts of Manipur.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur observed a bandh today, affecting normal life across the district.
