Maria’s Public School lifts 2nd Challengers Trophy U-19 football title

The 2nd Edition of the Challengers Trophy Under-19 Inter-School Football Tournament, organised by Maria’s Public School concluded with great excitement and youthful spirit. The week-long event brought together 12 leading schools from across Guwahati offering students a platform to showcase their love for football and the values of teamwork and fair play.

The opening ceremony of the tournament was held on the school ground with much enthusiasm. It was graced by Founder and Managing Trustee Nellie Ahmed, Chief Guest and renowned footballer Sanjeeva Rongpi, along with Principal Mausumi Mahanta and Vice Principal Anjan Gogoi. The guests encouraged the young players to uphold discipline, integrity, and sportsmanship both on and off the field. The ceremony began with an oath-taking ceremony and a group song and dance performance in memory of late singer Zubeen Garg, which added a heartfelt touch to the event.

From the very first match, the tournament witnessed intense competition and impressive displays of skill. Each team played with remarkable energy and determination, making every game a delight for the spectators. The semifinals and finals were especially thrilling, with students, teachers, and parents gathering in large numbers to cheer for their teams. The excitement in the stands matched the energy on the field as young footballers gave their best for their schools.

After a series of close matches and outstanding performances, Maria’s Public School claimed the Champions Trophy, showing excellent teamwork and consistency throughout the tournament. South Point School finished as the Runner-up, while Don Bosco School, Guwahati, secured the third position.

Individual brilliance was also recognised. Aman Amin of Maria’s Public School was named the Best Player of the Tournament for his exceptional play and leadership, while Sreyansh Yadav, also from Maria’s Public School, was honoured with the Best Goalkeeper Award for his consistent saves and strong defense.

The closing ceremony and prize distribution were attended by Afrida Hussain, a renowned investigative journalist who praised the young players for their spirit and hard work. She also appreciated the efforts of coaches, referees and organisers and encouraged students to not only excel in sports but also grow into responsible and kind human beings.
