Guwahati Police bans all processions and rallies to ease traffic congestion Guwahati Police bans all processions and rallies to ease traffic congestion

To improve traffic conditions in the city, the Guwahati Police has announced a ban on all types of processions, rallies, marathons, runathons, walkathons and similar events within Guwahati city. The order was issued today under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Imdad Ali.

The police said the decision was taken to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and to reduce congestion on the roads. According to the official order, processions and rallies often cause heavy traffic jams, inconvenience commuters, and delay emergency services. Such events, the police noted, create challenges for the public and disrupt the normal flow of city life.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Imdad Ali stated, “The purpose of this order is to ensure an uninterrupted commute for citizens. Road congestion caused by processions or rallies can not only inconvenience people but also delay emergency services, which may affect public safety.”
