Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday welcomed the Election Commission of India’s decision to undertake a Special Revision of the electoral rolls in the state, with 1st January 2026 set as the qualifying date.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the move would help ensure clean, updated, and accurate electoral rolls for all eligible citizens in Assam. “It is important that every voter has the correct entry in the electoral rolls. This Special Revision will make sure that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote without any issues,” he added.
The Chief Minister also assured that the Assam government would extend full cooperation to the Election Commission and its voter awareness and education wing, @ECISVEEP, to complete the revision in a transparent and time-bound manner. Officials said that the state administration will coordinate with district and local authorities to ensure that the revision process reaches every part of Assam, including remote and border areas.
The Election Commission’s Special Revision is part of its ongoing efforts to maintain accurate voter lists ahead of upcoming elections. Citizens will have the opportunity to check their details, add missing names, correct errors and remove duplicate or outdated entries. Local election offices are expected to organize camps and awareness drives in various towns and villages to help voters complete the process efficiently.
