The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has firmly denied reports of any electoral alliance in Assam, clarifying that the party has neither decided to begin operations in the state nor entered into any partnership with other political groups.
The party issued a statement on Twitter calling the reports “blatantly false” and reiterating that no alliance or political arrangement in Assam has been planned.https://x.com/aimim_national/status/1990694898664919521
The clarification follows comments made on November 17 by All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) president and former Member of Parliament Badaruddin Ajmal, who had hinted at a possible understanding with AIMIM ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Ajmal, speaking to reporters after months of illness, suggested that he and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi are in regular contact and that “everything is possible” in the coming elections.
Ajmal referred to Owaisi as a “brother” and indicated the potential for a joint campaign this election season. He also outlined ambitious goals for the AIUDF, noting that the party, which previously secured four seats, now hopes to win up to forty. Ajmal announced that AIUDF plans to field candidates in around 35 constituencies and vowed that the party would work to prevent the BJP from gaining an advantage.
