The investigation into the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore took another step on Wednesday as seven accused in the case were presented before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (Metropolitan) through virtual mode. The hearing was held with all the accused joining from their respective jails, and the court later ordered that they continue in judicial custody.
The main accused, Shyamkanu Mahanta, along with manager Siddhartha Sharma, Sandipan Garg, and two bodyguards, Nandeshwar Bora and Paresh Baishya, are currently lodged in Bongaigaon District Jail. These five are considered key figures in the case, and their roles are still under detailed examination by the investigating agencies.
The other two accused, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, are being held in Haflong Sub-Jail. Officials said the virtual production was conducted smoothly, and the court reviewed the current status of the investigation before deciding to extend their custody.
According to court directions, all seven accused will be produced again on December 3, when the next hearing is scheduled. The case continues to draw public attention in Assam, as people await clarity on the circumstances that led to the popular singer’s death in a foreign country.
