Ace long-distance swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika has achieved another major milestone by becoming the first swimmer from Assam to complete the 64-kilometre two-way open-water swim between Mandovi Bridge and Zuari Bridge in Goa. The long and demanding route tested his endurance throughout the day, marking a proud moment not just for him but for the entire state.

The 46-year-old swimmer began his journey early in the morning, moving steadily through changing tides and tough currents. According to team members accompanying him, Elvis had to deal with strong waves, large groups of fish passing by, and many jellyfish stings along the route. At some points, dolphins were seen swimming nearby, adding both surprise and excitement to the long effort. Despite these challenges, he kept his pace and pushed forward until he reached the finish point.

Speaking after completing the swim, Elvis said the experience was extremely exhausting but deeply fulfilling. He explained that many years of practice and the constant support from people back home kept him motivated throughout the long route. With visible emotion, he said that he had dedicated this achievement to Assam’s well-known singer and actor Zubeen Garg, whom he referred to as “Zubeen da.”

Elvis also shared that even at the age of 46, he continues to work hard and hopes to bring more pride to Assam through his sporting journey. He requested people to share the news so that more young athletes can feel encouraged to pursue open-water swimming and other endurance sports.

Over the years, Elvis Ali Hazarika has built a remarkable legacy. He holds a Limca Record, has received the Vikram Award—Assam’s highest honour in sports—and has successfully completed major international swims such as the English Channel and the Catalina Channel. He has also undertaken several challenging river swims in the Brahmaputra and Bhagirathi, earning respect from swimming communities across the country.
