Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma Tuesday came live on Facebook to speak directly to his supporters and make what he described as an important and emotional announcement. In a long address, he shared memories of his father, spoke about the struggle of the Tiprasa community, and urged people to join a large public rally scheduled for November 27 at Astabal Ground in Agartala.

Pradyot said that November 27 held deep meaning for him. On that day in 2006, he performed the last rites of his father, Kirit Bikram Kishore Deb Barman in Agartala. Pradyot said he was young at the time and did not know many things about Tripura. But when lakhs of Tiprasa people came from villages for his father’s cremation, he realised how much his family was loved and respected.

He remembered that on the journey from Agartala to the Royal Cremation Ground, he saw old men and women crying as they saw the body of the Maharaja. He said he also faced difficulties that day, as some people opposed the cremation being held at the Royal Cremation Ground. “But even in that difficult moment, the villages and poor people stood with me,” he said.

Nineteen years have passed since that day, he said. During this time, he has travelled, learned, and gone through many experiences. He said all these experiences shaped his political and personal journey.

Pradyot announced that a mass rally will be held at Astabal Ground on November 27 at 10 am. According to him, the rally was earlier planned for November 7, but the party did not receive permission. It was then postponed to November 15, but again, permission was not given because of another event at the ground. “Now we are finally getting permission for November 27,” he said. However, Tipra Motha will get the ground only at 10 pm on November 26, and they will have to clean and prepare it themselves.

Pradyot said he was surprised that while the CPI(M) and Congress received permission for their rallies in Agartala, Tipra Motha had to wait. Some people told him the delays were intentional, and done to stop their voice. “I don’t want to believe that,” he said, adding that he still hoped they would be allowed to speak freely on November 27.

Pradyot also said that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma would attend the rally. He said that Sangma had visited Khumulwng in the past, but this would be his first visit to a rally in Agartala. Pradyot added that the Meghalaya Chief Minister would not speak against BJP, Congress, or CPM, but would speak in support of regional parties.

From Nagaland, former minister and BJP national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon, who recently resigned from the BJP, is also going to participate. Senior leader RK Megan, who has been Speaker five times, MLA five times, and also a former minister, will join as well. Pradyot said people in Tripura know RK Megan well, and his presence will show solidarity.

He also said Daniel Langthasa from Dima Hasao would attend. Pradyot described the Dimasa and Tiprasa communities as “brothers,” and said they too wanted to extend their support. Leaders from other parts of the Northeast; Manipur, Gorkhaland, the Tai Ahom community of Assam, and indigenous groups from Upper Assam will also join the programme.

“In this way, many people are joining us and will speak in one voice,” he said.

Pradyot also claimed that some people were trying to create obstacles by influencing drivers and transport owners not to provide vehicles to those wanting to attend the rally. He said some were even increasing fares to make travel difficult.

“They think Tiprasa will bend. They think we will bow down. But we will not,” he said. “This is not 1970, not 1980, not 1990, not 2000. This is 2025. Today’s Tiprasa may have less money, but we have courage.”

Pradyot said that earlier he used to talk only about Greater Tipraland. He said he had spoken about historical regions like Kumilla, Chakla, Roshnabad, Cox’s Bazar, and said these areas once belonged to them. “We will bring them back in Greater Tipraland,” he said.

But now, he said he was speaking not just about Tiprasa issues, but about the United Northeast. According to him, the people of the Northeast face similar problems—discrimination, lack of respect, and neglect. “Our problems are the same. The day the entire Northeast speaks in one voice, the Government of India will have to take us seriously,” he said.

The November 27 rally, he said, would be a “One Northeast” rally.

Pradyot appealed to his supporters to maintain peace. He asked them to arrive at the venue between 10 am and 10:30 am because the rally would end by 1 to 1:30 pm. He said he did not want anyone to face trouble returning home in the dark.

“We are not against anyone. We only want to secure the future of our next generation,” he said. He asked people to come peacefully, express their views peacefully, and return home peacefully.

At several points, Pradyot spoke about the personal pressure he faces. He said people abuse him every day on social media and outside, but it does not affect him because he speaks from his heart. “As long as my heart is with my people, nothing anyone says can harm me,” he said.

He said some people tell him to sit quietly, keep silent, stop speaking, and give up. But he wants to see whether the people truly stand with him. “I want to see whether money is more important for you, or your children’s future,” he said.

He said that even if people do not come to the rally, he will not give up the fight, because he cannot betray the next generation. He spoke about “Gen Z” and said he wanted to secure their future.

He also said that when he thinks of elderly mothers in the villages who look at him with hope, he feels he cannot quit. “Pradyot, you should not give up,” he said.
