The second day of the Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began on Wednesday with the Question Hour, setting the tone for a day full of legislative activity. The House witnessed lively discussions as the government tabled a total of 10 bills, including eight amendment bills and two new proposals, signaling a strong legislative agenda for the session.

Among the new bills introduced, the North Eastern Regional Institute of Management (NERIM) University Bill, 2025, and the Azim Premji University Bill, 2025, stood out as key highlights. The NERIM University Bill seeks to upgrade the existing institute into a full-fledged university, aimed at enhancing higher education opportunities in the region. Meanwhile, the Azim Premji University Bill proposes the establishment of a new university in Assam with a focus on education and social development, reflecting the state government’s push to strengthen its educational landscape.
