Two suspended MLAs of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) are now preparing to join the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). The MLAs Zakir Hussain Laskar and Nizamuddin Choudhury have already completed their formal exit from the AIUDF, and their move towards AGP has triggered new discussions in state politics.
According to sources, Zakir Hussain Laskar was the first to signal his decision. Soon after, suspended MLA Nizamuddin Choudhury also confirmed that he would join the AGP. Both leaders had been inactive within AIUDF for months, following their suspension by the party leadership. Their joining the AGP is expected to strengthen AGP’s organisational network in certain minority-influenced constituencies.
Reacting to this political development, AIUDF leader Baharul Islam said the party has not suffered any damage. He stated that the two MLAs were already suspended and had no involvement in party activities. “Both were suspended. If one or two people leave, it does not cause any harm to us,” he said. Baharul Islam further said that AIUDF would continue to grow stronger in the coming days.
