Assam Congress president and Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has raised questions over what he described as the ruling BJP’s continued refusal to include major opposition issues in the daily agenda of Parliament. Gogoi said that for the second day in a row, the most important concerns flagged by opposition parties were not listed for discussion, even though Parliament is in session and several pressing matters need attention.
Gogoi said this situation has created a growing sense that the government is ignoring the basic spirit of parliamentary functioning. He asked why the BJP-led government was “taking Parliament for granted” and avoiding subjects that opposition members consider crucial for national debate. According to him, this repeated exclusion shows a lack of willingness to engage with diverse views inside the House.
The Congress MP also questioned the usefulness of the symbolic all-party meetings held before the start of every session. He said that the government appears to show interest during these meetings, but later fails to reflect the concerns of political parties in the official list of business for the day. Gogoi argued that this gap between what is discussed and what is actually taken up raises doubts about the sincerity of the BJP’s approach.
He further pointed out that this year’s Winter Session is one of the shortest in recent times, with only 15 working days. He asked whether the government is deliberately creating confusion and pushing Parliament into disorder by avoiding key discussions despite the limited time available. Gogoi said that Parliament is expected to be a space for open debate and accountability, and added that avoiding important issues only weakens democratic processes.
