Tension prevailed in Patiachuburi area of Tezpur after serious allegations surfaced against a retired Indian Air Force officer, triggering protests by local residents and a detailed police investigation into suspected national security violations.

According to police sources, Kulendra Sarma, a former Indian Air Force employee, has come under scrutiny for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistan-based intelligence handlers. The matter came to light after intelligence inputs pointed towards his alleged involvement in leaking confidential details related to the Tezpur Airbase.

Following the developments, residents of Patiachuburi staged protests outside Sarma’s residence, raising slogans and demanding strict action. Locals organised dharnas and expressed strong anger, saying such allegations have shaken public trust and created fear in the area.

Police officials said Sarma allegedly came in contact with two Pakistani nationals through social media platforms. Investigators believe he may have fallen into a “honey-trap”, through which sensitive information was allegedly extracted. It is further alleged that confidential documents and information were shared through WhatsApp with foreign handlers.

The Tezpur Sadar Police have registered a case against Sarma under Sections 147, 148, 152, 238, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The case has been registered as FIR No. 785/25. His mobile phone and laptop have been seized and sent for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation. The probe is being supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Purkayastha.

Senior police officials said the investigation will determine whether Sarma knowingly collaborated with foreign intelligence agencies or was manipulated through inducements. Authorities are also examining whether any financial transactions were involved.
