The district administration in Assam’s Cachar has imposed prohibitory orders along the India–Bangladesh border to prevent illegal movement and maintain law and order in sensitive areas, officials said on Wednesday.

According to an official release, the restrictions have been put in place as a preventive step in view of possible unauthorised cross-border activities. The administration has expressed concern that illegal movement of people or goods, as well as the presence of anti-social or extremist elements, could disturb peace and stability in the border belt.

District Magistrate Mridul Yadav issued the prohibitory order on Tuesday by exercising powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The order is aimed at stopping unlawful movement across the international boundary and preventing any activity that could pose a threat to public safety.

Officials said the border areas of Cachar are considered sensitive due to their proximity to Bangladesh and the difficult terrain in certain stretches. The administration has noted that such areas are often vulnerable to illegal crossings, smuggling, and other unauthorised activities if not closely monitored.

Under the prohibitory orders, restrictions will apply to the movement of people and goods in designated border areas. Gatherings of people and activities that could create law and order problems have also been restricted. Security agencies and local authorities have been asked to ensure strict enforcement of the order on the ground.
