In the case linked to the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, seven accused persons were produced virtually before the court today.

Zubeen Garg’s sister, Palmee Borthakur, spoke to reporters after the hearing. She said that the accused were presented before the court earlier in the day. She personally attended the proceedings online and said she was following the case closely.

Borthakur told the media that one of the accused, Amritprabha Mahanta, has now appointed her own lawyer. According to her, this step indicates that legal preparations have formally begun on the defence side. Sources present during the hearing informed that advocate Gabriel Sahu has been engaged to represent Mahanta.

Borthakur expressed confidence in the court process. She said that the family believes justice will be delivered through legal and institutional mechanisms. She added that the family wants the legal process to move properly and transparently.

She said the family has not received a copy of the chargesheet yet. “Only after we obtain the sealed copy of the chargesheet will it be clear what specific charges have been framed against the accused,” she said.

Borthakur also made a comment about the conduct of the accused during the virtual proceedings. She said that none of the accused showed any remorse or emotional reaction during the hearing.

The case involving the death of the well-known music icon continues to draw public concern in Assam, and many followers of Zubeen Garg are closely watching the legal developments. The family has repeated its call for a fair investigation and a timely trial.
