Bodoland University has seen a major change in its administrative set-up after Registrar Dr. Subung Basumatary was relieved from his duties with immediate effect. The decision was taken in compliance with a directive issued by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and approved by the Office of the Governor of Assam, who also serves as the Chancellor of the university.
According to official documents, Dr. Subung Basumatary had been serving as Registrar on a temporary basis since April 30, 2022. He is currently on lien from his original post as Principal of Janata College, Serfanguri, which falls under the BTC area. Following the latest directive, he has been asked to formally hand over his responsibilities.
The charge of Registrar has now been given to Deputy Registrar Dr. Prahlad Basumatary. He will handle the role on an interim and ad hoc basis. This is not the first time he has worked in this position, as he had earlier served as Registrar-in-Charge under orders issued by the Chancellor.
The office order was issued on December 30, 2025 by the Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University from the university headquarters at Debargaon in Kokrajhar. Copies of the order were also forwarded to the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, the Secretary of BTC, and various senior officials of the university. This was done to ensure that the transition of responsibility is smooth and properly recorded.
University sources said the change was made as part of routine administrative compliance. The BTC had earlier written to the authorities regarding the removal of the Registrar, and the university acted in line with governance rules and instructions from the Chancellor’s office.
