The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has issued an official statement saying that the Kuki-Zo people will not take part in the formation of any government in Manipur under the present situation. The council said this decision reflects the collective political stand of the Kuki-Zo community.
According to the statement, a Governing Council General Meeting was held on 30 December 2025 at the VTI Auditorium in Churachandpur. Representatives from all bodies under the Kuki-Zo Council attended the meeting. The council said the meeting discussed the present political, social and security situation in Manipur in detail. After long discussions and assessment of the ground situation, the council said all the members agreed on the same stand.
The council stated that there is now a unanimous feeling among the Kuki-Zo people that they can no longer live together with the Meitei community. Because of this, the Governing Council has again demanded a Separate Administration for the Kuki-Zo people, preferably in the form of a Union Territory under the Constitution of India.
The Kuki-Zo Council further said that the people of the community “cannot and shall not participate” in any process related to forming the Manipur government. The KZC Cabinet has also endorsed this decision and said it reflects the democratic will of the people.
The statement added that if any individual decides to join the process of government formation in Manipur, it will be done entirely at their own risk and responsibility. The Council said it will not be accountable for such actions.
