The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has suspended its Joint Secretary, Shahnawaz Ahmed, for an indefinite period after serious allegations were made against him. The party said that he was suspended for what it described as “gross party indiscipline,” and for actions that could damage the image of the Congress in Assam.

The decision was taken on the direction of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi. A formal suspension order was issued by the party state unit, stating that Ahmed had been suspended from all party responsibilities until further notice. The order also mentioned that his actions had created political hatred among party workers, which the party leadership viewed as unacceptable.

The suspension follows allegations that Ahmed was involved in a violent incident on Monday night in Sribhumi’s Nilambazar area. According to reports, he allegedly attacked Zila Parishad member Zillur Chowdhury with a sharp weapon. The incident is said to have caused serious injuries to Chowdhury, who was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he is now undergoing treatment.
