Tension has been reported in Ireng Naga Village following an incident of vandalism and alleged threats linked to armed cadres of the KNF-P, officials and local residents said.
According to reports, the incident took place on the night of January 11, 2026, when armed miscreants allegedly belonging to the SoO group KNF-P entered Ireng Naga Village in Kangpokpi District and damaged public property. The vandals reportedly destroyed a waiting shed, chairs, and other materials meant for public use. The village memorial stone was also defaced with provocative slogans such as “Kukiland” and “Stay Away,” causing anger and fear among residents.
In protest against what villagers described as an unlawful and deliberate act, residents of Ireng Village peacefully blocked the Ireng road on January 12, 2026. The protest was carried out without violence, with villagers demanding action against those involved in the vandalism and seeking protection for the community.
Tensions further escalated after a leader of the KNF-P allegedly contacted the Chairman of Ireng Village through WhatsApp and later called from an unknown number, issuing what villagers described as serious threats. The reported threats have deepened concern among residents, who fear for their safety and the security of the village.
On January 13, 2026, Naga villagers took out a rally to strongly protest against the alleged threats by Chin Kuki militants. During the rally, protesters also demanded the removal of SoO camps from areas near their village, stating that the presence of armed groups has created insecurity and disturbed peaceful coexistence.
