Tripura Police arrested one person and seized suspected arms-manufacturing tools along with live cartridges during a late-night operation in West Tripura district, officials said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out on Tuesday night, January 13, in the Kartik Chowmuhani area under Amtali Police Station. Acting on a specific tip-off received late in the night, a police team moved quickly to verify information about the presence of arms-related items inside a house in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Amtali Sub-Divisional Police Officer Parmita Pandey said the input was treated as serious, following which a team from Tripura Police rushed to the spot. The team, led by Sub-Inspector Mrinal Paul from Amtali Police Station, cordoned off the house to prevent any movement and conducted a thorough search of the premises.
During the search, police recovered seven cartridge cases, several bullet-related items and a number of tools believed to have been used for manufacturing firearms. Based on the recovery, one person, identified as Balbair Singh, was arrested from the house.
SDPO Pandey said the arrested man will be produced before a court on Thursday. Police will seek his remand to allow further questioning and to trace possible links related to the seized items. All recovered materials have been taken into custody and will be sent for forensic examination to determine their nature and origin.
Police also revealed that a case had earlier been registered against the accused in 2024 at Kalamchoura Police Station in Sepahijala district. Records related to that case are now being collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
