Jorhat MP and senior Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi today spoke about the idea of a “Bor Axom” and said that this vision should reach the people not only through speeches and statements, but also through culture and music.
Speaking on the occasion of Artists’ Day, Gogoi said that for a long time he and his colleagues have been talking about the dream of a greater Assam. He said this idea is deeply rooted in Assam’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage and reflects the values that have shaped Assamese society over generations.
Referring to Assam’s great cultural icons, Gogoi said the vision of a greater Assam is enriched by the humanism and national spirit found in the timeless creations of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Bhupen Hazarika. He also said that the thoughts of Zubeen Garg, as reflected in his work Kanchenjunga, continue to inspire the people of Assam.
He added that the teachings and wisdom of Srimanta Sankardeva and Ajan Fakir have guided Assamese society towards unity, harmony and mutual respect. According to Gogoi, these values form the foundation of a greater Assam where people from different backgrounds live together peacefully.
The Congress leader said his party is committed to building a greater Assam with new ideas and fresh thinking. He stressed that this vision should not remain limited to words alone.
“With this thought, we decided to express our ideas through music,” Gogoi said.
He said that a song titled “Axomiya Moi Bor Axomor” has been composed to convey this message. The song was officially released on Artists’ Day so that it could reach people across the state.
Gogoi expressed hope that the song would be warmly accepted by the people of Assam and requested them to share it with their family members and friends, so that the message of unity and pride in Assamese identity reaches a wider audience.
