Civil society group Arambai Tenggol has welcomed the first visit of President Droupadi Murmu to Manipur, saying her presence comes at a time when the state’s displaced families are still waiting for full support and recognition. In a detailed statement issued by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Robin Mangang Khwairakpam, the organisation said that thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been “struggling silently” for years. According to the group, many of these families are still trying to rebuild their homes and livelihoods while continuing to live without complete access to government benefits.

The organisation said that several displaced families remain without essential help and that their current living conditions fall below the dignity “every citizen of our great nation deserves.” It expressed hope that the President’s visit would bring national attention back to the problems that these families face every day.

Arambai Tenggol urged the President to ensure that all Central Government schemes reach the displaced families in a fair and transparent way. The group said the IDPs “look to the nation with trust” and that providing them proper support is a matter of moral responsibility.

The group also raised concerns about what it described as unregulated movement across Manipur’s international borders. It repeated its demand for implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, saying this would help address demographic concerns and strengthen national security. Citing a recent observation by the Supreme Court that illegal immigrants do not enjoy the same legal rights as citizens, the group argued that proper verification systems are necessary to protect indigenous communities.

Arambai Tenggol added that the porous borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh have led to increasing concerns among local communities. It said that strict verification and control are needed to restore public confidence and ensure long-term stability.
