All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal held a press conference at his residence in Hojai and spoke about the party’s preparations for the upcoming Assam assembly elections and addressed speculation regarding alliances with other political parties.
Ajmal said that AIUDF plans to field candidates in 35 constituencies across Assam. Out of these, 26 seats are expected to be contested in the forthcoming state assembly elections. Speaking about potential alliances, he acknowledged ongoing talks with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi. He said that AIUDF will formally invite Owaisi after December 3. “Whether they accept or not is up to them. We have formed a group of 3–4 MLAs who are ready to work towards this alliance. If it happens, things will change with God’s grace. We will work hard, and the rest will be seen,” he said.
Ajmal also compared the situation in Bihar with Assam.. He said that after observing Bihar’s elections, the party sees the need for change and is receiving positive responses from people. “Now that people have seen that Rahul Gandhi cannot become the Prime Minister of India, they are looking for alternatives. He doesn’t even deserve to be an MLA in a village or constituency. Competing with the Prime Minister, who attends 50 programmes daily, is not easy,” he added.
In addition to election-related matters, Ajmal expressed condolences over the recent death of singer Zubeen Garg. He stated that AIUDF stands with Garg’s family and urged a thorough investigation into his death. “The matter is serious and we are following up to ensure justice,” he said.
