Assam continued to witness strong emotional gatherings around the screening of Roi Roi Binale, the final film of the late legendary singer and actor Zubeen Garg, as audiences across the state flocked to cinema halls. In Bijoynagar, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) chief Lurinjyoti Gogoi, accompanied by senior leaders Jagadish Bhuyan and Pankaj Lochan Goswami, joined fans for a special screening at Silver Screen Digital Cinema Hall. Before stepping in, they paused to offer tributes, remembering Zubeen as one of the greatest contributors to Assamese music and cinema.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi praised the film’s emotional depth, saying, “As the film’s title suggests, Roi Roi Binale reflects today’s reality. People will truly understand Zubeen Garg’s ideals after watching this film. I urge everyone to come and watch his final movie.” He added that audiences across theatres are turning the film into a powerful symbol of public sentiment and justice. “In a democracy, the people are the strongest judges, and today they are raising their voice in every way.”
Gogoi also questioned the government’s stance regarding the release. Drawing comparisons with the screening of The Kashmir Files, he said, “Why was leave not announced today? Will the Chief Minister watch Roi Roi Binale with his cabinet ministers?” He pointed out that during the release of the previous film, the Chief Minister had personally attended a screening and given leave to staff, and suggested that similar official support should have been shown for Zubeen’s film.
The screening event in Bijoynagar drew a large crowd, showing once again how deeply Zubeen’s art connects with the people of Assam. Many cinema halls across the state are fully booked, with some multiplexes running 24-hour shows and early morning screenings. Gogoi noted that nearly 700 theatre screens worldwide are showcasing the film, calling it a historic moment for Assamese cinema. “This film has become an emotion. People are showing their responsibility by ensuring Zubeen’s ideals and legacy continue,” he said.
