Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has said that he does not agree with the recent stand taken by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi regarding the ongoing talks on opposition seat-sharing in Assam. He said that the discussions on seat-sharing among opposition parties are still going on and will continue further.

Akhil Gogoi said that such important political talks should not be carried out openly through the media. He added that discussions about seat-sharing should not become a matter for daily news debate or television panel shows. He said that these matters should be handled through direct political talks among the concerned parties.

He also said that earlier, Gaurav Gogoi himself had said that discussions on seat-sharing should not be conducted through the media. Akhil Gogoi questioned why the same rule was not followed this time. He said that he could not accept this sudden change in approach.

Akhil Gogoi stated that all opposition parties should work together with patience and respect during the discussions. He said that if unity has to be achieved, then everyone should avoid public statements that may create confusion among workers and supporters.

The Raijor Dal leader said that the talks are still in progress and that no final decision has been made yet. He added that there should be more meetings and calm dialogue to reach an understanding. He said that the main goal should be to strengthen the opposition’s position in the coming elections.

He further said that the people of Assam expect responsible behaviour from political leaders. Therefore, he appealed that discussions should be done internally instead of being debated publicly.

Earlier, on January 1, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) shared its plan for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Party president Gaurav Gogoi said that the Congress is working with a clear roadmap for development, governance and political unity in the state. He spoke about this at a press conference in New Delhi.

Gaurav Gogoi also confirmed that 26 Assembly seats will be kept for alliance partners as part of a joint opposition plan. He said that the Congress wants to build a stronger and more inclusive “Bor Axom” and that the party will focus on simple, people-oriented development if it comes to power. He said progress should improve daily life, not just create big projects for show.

He also announced that the application process for Congress tickets has started. Forms can be downloaded online and later submitted at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati with the required fee. The party plans to contest around 100 seats, but applications have been kept open for all constituencies.

He further said that those who apply for Congress tickets in the 26 seats reserved for alliance partners will have their fees refunded, because these seats will finally be allotted to other parties in the opposition alliance.
