All government and provincialised schools in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district will remain closed for a week from December 31, 2025 to January 6, 2026, following an official order issued by the Inspector of Schools under the Samagra Shiksha Mission. The decision has been taken because of the ongoing extreme cold weather conditions in the district.
According to the advisory, the order has been issued after considering the health and safety of students. The Inspector of Schools stated that the closure of schools was approved by the District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metropolitan). The notice clearly mentions that the extreme cold wave has made it difficult for students to attend regular classes safely, leading the authorities to temporarily suspend physical classes for a week.
The advisory has been sent to all heads of government and provincialised schools in the district. They have been instructed to immediately inform students, parents, and school staff about the closure. Schools have also been asked to ensure that no academic or co-curricular activities are conducted during this period. Authorities have further advised schools to make proper arrangements for the smooth resumption of classes once the schools reopen after January 6.
While the order applies to government and provincialised schools, private schools in the district have been advised to take their own decisions in the interest of students. This means individual private schools may choose to continue or suspend classes depending on their own assessment of the situation.
