Senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday ruled out any possibility of an alliance between the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). Gogoi said there is “zero possibility” of any political understanding between the two parties, putting an end to ongoing speculation in political circles.

Earlier, on December 15, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal had addressed the media at his residence in Hojai and spoke about his party’s election preparations. Ajmal said AIUDF plans to contest 35 seats across Assam, with around 26 seats likely to be part of the upcoming Assembly polls. He also confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) regarding a possible alliance. Ajmal said AIUDF would formally invite AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi after December 3, adding that a small group of MLAs has been formed to work on the proposed tie-up.

Ajmal also referred to the political situation in Bihar, saying his party believes people are looking for alternatives after observing recent elections there. He made critical remarks about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and claimed that AIUDF is receiving positive responses from the public. Apart from election matters, Ajmal expressed condolences over the death of singer Zubeen Garg and called for a proper investigation, stating that his party stands with the bereaved family.
