Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Monday morning after his visit was delayed the previous night due to heavy fog. His flight had been scheduled to land on Sunday, but poor visibility forced the change. He finally reached Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI Airport) earlier today and began his official engagements soon after arrival.
Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) were present at the airport to welcome him. Among those who received him were Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, AGP leader Tapan Das and senior BJP leader Baijayant Jay Panda. They greeted the Home Minister soon after he landed and accompanied him during the reception formalities.
After his arrival, Amit Shah’s first stop in Assam is Batadrava in Nagaon district. He is travelling there by helicopter to inaugurate the Bordowa Project. A public gathering has also been organised as part of the programme, where the Home Minister is expected to address the people and speak about the project and related development work.
Once the event in Batadrava concludes, he will return to Guwahati. From there, he is scheduled to travel to Sarusajai and later proceed to Boragaon. At around 3 pm, he is likely to visit the Swaheed Smarak Kshetra, which is an important memorial site dedicated to martyrs. State officials and party leaders are expected to be present during this visit.
His visit will continue with several inauguration programmes in the city. At 3:30 pm, Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed Office of the Police Commissioner in Guwahati. This new complex is expected to support police administration and strengthen law-and-order infrastructure in the city.
Later, at around 4:30 pm, the Home Minister will inaugurate the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, a newly built auditorium with a seating capacity of about 5,000 people. The cultural centre has been named after celebrated personalities and is expected to host major events and programmes in the future. Public gatherings are also planned at some of these venues, where Amit Shah may address citizens and dignitaries.
Throughout the day, security has been tightened in Guwahati and surrounding areas. Traffic movement is expected to be regulated in certain routes to ensure smooth travel for the visiting dignitary. Police and administration officials have been deployed at key locations linked to his itinerary. The arrangements began well in advance, particularly after the programme had to be rescheduled following Sunday night’s fog-related delay.
