Preparations are underway in Batadrava ahead of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah later this month. With the inauguration of the Batadrava project approaching, Assam Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota on Sunday inspected the site to review the progress of work and assess the arrangements.
Dr Kota was accompanied by Batadrava MLA Rupak Sharma, Assam Police Inspector General Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma, Secretary of Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra Sudarshan Thakur, along with several senior officials from the district administration and police department. The visit focused on assessing readiness at various facilities that form part of the ambitious cultural and spiritual project.
During the inspection, the Chief Secretary carefully reviewed the guest houses that have been specially designed for visitors and dignitaries. He also inspected the auditorium, which has been developed to reflect Assam’s rich Sattriya culture. The auditorium features design elements inspired by traditional temple drums, highlighting the region’s Vaishnav heritage.
Dr Kota also visited the research centre, which follows a Khol-style architectural layout, and the skill development centre, designed in the shape of a traditional boat. Another major attraction inspected was the theatre, built with a Japi-inspired design, symbolising Assamese identity and tradition. In addition, the main entrance gate and the helipad area were reviewed to ensure smooth movement and security arrangements during the high-profile visit.
Officials briefed the Chief Secretary on the final stage of work currently underway. Dr Kota directed departments concerned to complete the remaining tasks on priority and stressed the importance of coordination among all agencies to ensure that the inauguration programme proceeds without any difficulty.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the Batadrava project on December 29. The event is expected to draw a massive gathering, with around 50,000 Vaishnav devotees from different parts of Assam likely to attend the programme. The inauguration is being seen as a significant cultural event for the state.
As part of the welcome programme, nearly 2,000 musicians will perform, while thousands of participants will take part in cultural presentations showcasing Sattriya traditions.
