Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora today said that public anger is steadily rising against the BJP government, as more and more people feel that their basic needs are not being met. He was speaking at a press conference where he explained a new initiative that he has launched to connect directly with the people.

Bora said that earlier he used to prepare his election manifesto himself at his office in Khanapara. He would write the points, list the issues and finalise the document. But this time he was told that the manifesto would not be presented as a Congress manifesto. Instead, it would be called the “Raijar Manifesto,” meaning a manifesto of the people. Only then, he said, would he be able to present it before the public. He said this is why he has decided to introduce a new initiative that keeps people at the centre of politics.

Under the initiative called “Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress,” Bora and his team have divided their work into five parts. Over the next 25 days, he will travel across different districts, including Nagaon and Hojai. During these visits, he plans to meet civil society members, NGOs, social organisations and various stakeholders. He said the aim is to listen to people directly and understand the real issues they face in daily life.

Bora said that during these interactions, he has seen a clear sense of disappointment with the BJP government. He said that people feel that despite all the promises made, their everyday problems remain unsolved. He pointed out that prices are rising, family incomes are under stress, and livelihoods are becoming harder to sustain. Because of this, he said many citizens now feel frustrated and let down. In such a situation, political change becomes natural, and he believes that growing support is coming towards the Congress.

He also said that his politics has always remained connected to the grassroots level. All wings of the Congress party are being involved in this process, he added. On the subject of alliances at the national and state levels, Bora said that such decisions are guided by strategy and public interest, not by personal ambition or power-seeking.

Bora further said that the Congress wants to give more opportunities to young leaders. The party, he said believes that the younger generation must be encouraged to take responsibility and shape the future of democratic politics in the country. “The younger generation will carry the legacy of Congress forward. This is the policy and direction we are committed to,” he said.

Targeting the BJP government, Bora said that people are no longer satisfied with its performance. He said that the Congress is trying to build a platform where people’s voices are truly heard, and where public concerns shape political decisions, instead of top-down control by the ruling party.

The initiative, he said, is meant to rebuild trust between leaders and citizens and to show that politics must remain people-centric, especially at a time when many feel that the government is becoming distant from common people’s problems.
