Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the dates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections are likely to be announced within the next two months. With this statement, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally set the tone for its campaign and preparations for the upcoming polls.

The Chief Minister was speaking at the BJP’s state executive meeting held at the Srimanta Sankardev Auditorium in Kalakshetra, Guwahati. The two-day meeting entered its second day on Saturday and brought together senior party leaders and elected representatives from across the state.

In his address, Sarma spoke at length about the government’s work over the last ten years. He said that development had remained the main focus during this period. Referring to earlier times, he said that people once believed that only protests could bring results, but today the state had seen major projects and new institutions coming up in different districts.
