Death of young hospital worker in Guwahati after termination email sparks serious allegations Death of young hospital worker in Guwahati after termination email sparks serious allegations

A young employee of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute was found dead inside the hospital premises on Sunday, triggering serious allegations from her family and sparking public outrage.

The deceased has been identified as Sonia Rajbongshi, a 23-year-old fourth-grade employee who had been working at the hospital for the past two years. Sonia, a resident of Rangia, was found lifeless inside the hospital’s changing room under circumstances that her family has described as “highly suspicious.”

According to family members, Sonia had been under severe mental stress after receiving an email on January 10 informing her that her services had been terminated. The family alleged that neither Sonia nor her parents were given any prior notice or explanation for the decision.

“The hospital authorities never told us what mistake our daughter had committed. If there was any issue, they should have spoken to us. Instead, they sent a termination letter by email,” a family member told reporters.

Family members further claimed that Sonia was not involved in direct patient care, raising questions about the grounds for her termination. They said at least five employees had received similar emails around the same time.

One of the terminated staff members told the media that a complaint had been lodged in November by a patient named Khairul Islam regarding dissatisfaction with hospital management. The employee alleged that the management blamed certain staff members for the complaint and later terminated them.

The family also questioned the events leading up to Sonia’s death. They said that when they went to the hospital to seek clarification, they were asked to contact the hospital in-charge, who reportedly did not respond. Later, Sonia went into the changing room, saying she needed to change clothes. When she did not answer repeated calls for a long time, the door was forced open and she was found dead.

“We believe this is not a simple case. She was under immense pressure. We demand a proper investigation and justice,” the family said.
