Assam cabinet minister Bimal Borah today paid tribute to a legendary Assamese singer who passed away on Thursday. The minister visited the hospital in Guwahati where the late artist’s body was kept and offered his last respects. Speaking to the media after paying tribute, he said the noted singer was a shining gem of Assamese music and someone who will always remain a pride of Assam.
Bimal Borah said the artist’s voice touched every heart and his melodious songs always found a special place among the people of Assam. He shared that the late singer’s creations carried deep emotion, love for culture, and the beauty of Assamese traditions. According to him, the artist’s songs continue to live in the minds of lakhs of listeners even today.
The minister told reporters that the final rites will be performed tomorrow in Dibrugarh and the government has decided to give him full state honour. Officials are already coordinating the arrangements so that the farewell ceremony takes place in a respectful and organised manner. Borah said the state government stands with the family and fans of the late singer during this difficult time. 
He recalled that the singer rose to fame during the 1970s, a time when Assamese cinema and cultural activities were growing strongly. During that era, music from Assam reached many new listeners and the late artist played a key role in that golden phase. Minister Borah also mentioned that many talented personalities of that time, including well-known actors, worked with the legendary singer and created films and songs that remain evergreen.
