Assam after Congress leader and Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain made a statement that has shocked many people in the state. Speaking to reporters, Hussain said that once the Congress comes to power in Assam, all eviction drives carried out by the Himanta Biswa Sarma government would stop. He went on to say that all evicted families would get back their land.
Hussain also added that the Congress party would “make arrangements to build houses” for those who were removed during the eviction drives. According to him, this was not just his suggestion but a decision approved by the Congress high command.
People are questioning the logic and responsibility behind such claims. Many are asking how the Congress can promise to return land that was already cleared legally by the government. Some are also saying that this type of comment may encourage encroachment and could create serious problems for law and order. 
Reacting strongly, Assam BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika blasted Rakibul Hussain’s statement. He said that such a promise is irresponsible and cannot be allowed under any circumstances. Hazarika declared that “As long as HCM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is the Chief Minister, no one will even dare attempt this. We are fully determined and will resist with all our strength. We will never allow you to do this!!”
