Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Chairperson of Pride East Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. (PEEPL), has filed a defamation case against activist and politician Akhil Gogoi. The complaint was registered at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Kamrup Metro, under C.R. 502/2025, following allegations that Gogoi tried to involve her name in the investigation of late singer Zubeen Garg’s death. The first hearing of the case is scheduled for October 30, 2025.
Riniki Bhuyan Sharma appeared to take a subtle dig at Gogoi saying that she prefers not to mention the name of someone she deeply admires. She said that this person has been a key part of her journey as an entrepreneur and contributed to the success of News Live from its early days. “He has supported the channel from the beginning and continues to do so today,” she said. She added that it is disheartening to involve a legendary figure in what she described as “political gaming,” especially when the focus should be on unity and justice rather than personal attacks.
Riniki Bhuyan Sharma also said that PEEPL would provide full support to Akhil Gogoi for his fact-finding mission. This includes a first-class flight ticket to Singapore, accommodation in a five-star hotel, and logistical assistance for gathering evidence related to the case. She clarified that the support is intended to facilitate proper investigation, and the findings will be presented in court during the first hearing on October 30.
