Former ULFA leader Drishti Rajkhowa was granted bail today by the TADA court in Guwahati in connection with a long-pending kidnapping case. Rajkhowa appeared before the court in the morning, after which the court heard the matter and allowed him to go on bail with certain conditions.

According to the court order, Rajkhowa was asked to furnish two sureties along with a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh each. The court passed the order after briefly hearing his submission and reviewing the case documents placed before it.

The case dates back to 1993, when a railway contractor named Kanhaiyalal Gupta was reportedly kidnapped from Kheroni in Karbi Anglong district. A case was registered at that time, and the investigation later led to a chargesheet being filed against Rajkhowa and a few others who were suspected to be involved in the incident. Since then, the matter has remained pending in the court.

Later, the court issued a summon asking Rajkhowa to appear in the case. As he did not turn up on the scheduled date, the court went on to issue an arrest warrant against him. However, after he appeared today, Rajkhowa told the court that he had never received any arrest warrant earlier and therefore could not present himself before the court at that time.

Taking note of his statement, the court decided to grant him bail.
